November at Integrative Healing Arts Studio

November Blessings! The air has turned cooler, the evenings come earlier, and the leaves are turning their beautiful colors and falling one by one. November teaches us to let go…

It’s not easy to let go of the warm sunny days of summer and the bountiful harvests it brings. But nature has its cycles, as do we, and with each changing season we have a new opportunity. The trees let go of their leaves to make room for next year’s growth. They gracefully drop their leaves, returning them to the soil which will provide vital nutrients back to them over time.

The season of autumn is associated with the metal element in Chinese Medicine. In us the metal element corresponds to the lungs and the colon. The colon is about letting go of waste matter, so that the lungs can take in new inspiration.

It is a time of settling in and preparing for rest but too often we push against the cycles of nature and keep plugging away at our daily lives. In order to get the most out of this season and honor the body, mind, and spirit, there are some simple changes we can make.

Our activities should really just be limited to the ones that are truly essential, (easier said than done, I know) There is less energy around so we have to conserve energies and this includes letting go of thoughts or beliefs that no longer serve us. Holding onto to these thought forms limits our ability to take in new ideas, preventing us from moving forward. This time of year is also a good time to go through your cupboards and belongings and getting rid of anything you don’t need because in clearing away the old, we are now receptive to the new!

Change your diet with the seasons, now is a time to eat warm hearty foods like soups and stews that nourish the body and support the immune system. Heavy grains, seeds, roots, root vegetables, and squashes help move the body’s energy inward for the Winter. Pungent (spicy) flavors also correspond to the Metal element and pungent flavors range from hot and warm like cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, anise and ginger, onions and radish to the cooling mints and lemon balms. The fragrance of these pungent foods help to stimulate the appetite, increase digestion, create warmth and circulation, and dispel phlegm and mucus.  Add warming spices to mulled ciders, warm applesauce, baked fruits and desserts or simply sip on a warming cup of tea.  Aromatic herbs like sage, rosemary and thyme help to circulate Qi and stimulate the digestion, and mints can help drain sinus congestion. This butternut squash soup is simple to make and supports your stomach Qi and digestion. Sprinkle some nettle leaves on for added nourishment and energy.

Make sure to honor your body and get rest when it is needed. Spend some time nurturing yourself with restorative yoga, massage therapy, Reiki, meditation, and warm baths.  Get out for a relaxing walk in nature through the falling leaves and breathe in the crisp cool air. Here at the studio the spicy warm fall specials are still going on until November 30th. It’s also a perfect time to warm the body with a hot stone massage or far infrared sauna session. Much of November is already booked so make sure to schedule your services soon! Download the new studio app to be the first to know about new classes, open hours, specials, and last minute openings.

New items are arriving and the Small Business Saturday Open House is right around the corner. The studio will be open from 11:00am-3:00pm on Saturday November 25th with some great specials you won’t want to miss on gift certificates, new essential oil diffusers, and more! I’m happy to now offer Plant Therapy Essential Oils in the healing boutique. Plant Therapy’s standards of quality are some of the strictest in the industry and they are affordable too! Their pre-diluted roll on blends are a perfect match to my crystal aromatherapy diffuser bracelets and the fall blends fill the space with all the scents of this beautiful season.

Hope to see you in November!

Chakra and Gemstone Chimes-New Addition to the Studio’s Healing Boutique-Create a Positive Flow of Energy in Your Space

These enchanting new chakra and gemstone chimes are now available in the studio’s Healing Boutique!

Wind Chimes have been used as a sound healing tool for hundreds of years. It is believed that wind chimes can change negative energy into positive energy based on the type of wind chime and where it is placed.

Wind chimes can reduce stress, promote healing and cause people to become more creative. Metal wind chimes placed in front of a large window will welcome prosperity and inner harmony.

In addition, the Chinese believe wooden wind chimes placed outside a home (and under the stars) can turn negative energy into positive energy, healing both the home and the occupants from a case of “bad luck.”

There are many different traditions around the world when it comes to using and the placement of wind chimes.

Let Go and Let it Grow-June Musings-Integrative Healing Arts Studio

June Blessings! May is always such a busy time of change and transformation, I’ve just spent the past couple weeks moving the studio and I haven’t had much time for the Spring garden chores. As I wandered my garden the other day I stopped to reflect upon this particular area where I never really did much with. It seems everything I tried to put here did poorly, but now I noticed the way the lambs ears and echinacea have spread around on their own. The anise hyssop also re-seeded and soon there will be mounds of pretty purple and silver flowers in this spot. All of a sudden I can see the beginning of a new garden. I can imagine putting in stepping stones between the plants and adding some garden sculptures, bird baths, and feeders, and tucking in a few more flowers and herbs here and there. Just like that there will be another beautiful corner to find peace in…and here I thought I was out of room for more! So as I often love to do, compare the garden to life, I reflect upon how often we plan things out and put so much thought and detail into the way we think things should be that we often miss out on how beautiful something can turn out if we just let it go for a bit. Sometimes we put a plant in a certain area where we want it, where we think it will look good but it’s just not right, it won’t grow or thrive. Most times it’s not the plant but the location, the soil, not enough sun, or too much; when a plant is allowed to spread to an area where they find comfort they will be stronger, healthier, more resistant to disease and parasites, so will we…The most wonderful things can happen when you keep an open mind and heart so let go and let it grow!

I am officially in my new location now at 546 Penn Ave. I’m just a hop, skip, and a jump from my old space but what an exciting new world it is over here and so full of possibilities, I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!  I’ve started to schedule some classes and events for June and I’ve listed them here, schedules are subject to change so make sure to check the events on the right side of web page for the most up to date information. During June, and possibly the rest of the market season, I will have open hours on Sunday mornings for those that would like to shop the healing boutique, pick up gift certificates, or custom blends. The hours will be in the range of 11ish to 12:30 ish and I’ll post the hours beforehand. If you are out strolling the West Reading Farmers Market make sure to stop in and say hi! To get to the studio you would enter through the front door at 546 (Double Click Computers), go through a second door that will lead you up the steps to the studio which will be straight ahead.

New Studio Sneek Peek~Integrative Healing Arts Studio 546 Penn Ave West Reading

I’ve been feverishly moving and getting the new studio ready all week! There is still a lot of moving to be done (where did all this stuff come from?) but there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The occupancy inspection went well and I am now able to operate out of the new space. I hope to have my sign hung by the end of the month too. I have to tell you, I really missed having a comfortable space. While the previous store front was charming, it just didn’t serve my purpose for the type of healing space that I require to do my work. I am amazed at how much at home I feel here already. I look forward to sharing it with you.

When you arrive at the studio for a scheduled appointment, class, or event, you will enter through the main front door of 546 Penn Ave. You will then proceed through a second door that will lead you up the steps to my studio which is located on the second floor. While you are up there you can peek into the Wicked Mystic Art Studio which is on the left at the top of the stairs. Hope to see you sometime soon! 2nd Fridays & Art on the Avenue are coming up soon! Our moon Crystal Meditations should resume by July. More to come!

February A Month of Self Love

February Blessings! We have made it through the darkest part of winter and each day the light grows stronger! We are now at the halfway point between Winter and Spring, light a candle this evening and sow your seeds of intention.

February’s focus is on self love and the heart chakra. Self love and an open heart chakra is a foundation that sends out magical ripples that create powerful, positive shifts in health and happiness that not only benefit you but all of those around you. The heart chakra is your control center for compassion, empathy, connection, forgiveness, and unconditional love. It is the great bridge that connects the physical body to the divine, the lower three body chakras with the upper three spiritual chakras. The heart chakra also plays a huge role in connecting us to others. When your heart chakra is healthy and open, you are unafraid to give and receive love. You forgive yourself and others easily, you practice self-acceptance, harmony and experience deep compassion. When the heart chakra is out of balance, however, you may feel emotionally unstable, angry, paranoid, unworthy of love, always in self-pity or unforgiving of yourself or others. If you feel that your heart chakra is in need of some attention, there are many things you can do to balance the energies. The first step toward healing is engaging in self love.  Once you fully love and protect yourself, you are able to project this loving energy onto others.

There are many services and events here at the studio to help you on your path of self love, not just in February, but each day of the year! I have however chosen February to focus on many of them.

The Rose Quartz Integrative Massage & Reiki services started out as a Valentine’s Day promotion here at the studio four years ago and wound up staying on the service menu year round due to the profound impact made, they have become, by far my most popular services.
